Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC)

The Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program was created in 1986 and is the largest source of new affordable housing in the United States for eligible tenant families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.

The LIHTC program does not provide housing subsidies.  The tax credit subsidies provide a moderate level of affordability through rent restrictions to benefit residents.  Each LIHTC Property's minimum affordability requirements detail the rental rate at which a unit can be offered to be considered “affordable,” who can qualify for affordable housing.

Auburn Housing Authority has 86 Units of LIHTC across three developments.  Each of the developments has its own set of affordability restrictions to benefit the residents.
